EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANTS (ETP)

Effluent is waste other than waste from kitchens or toilets, surface water, or domestic sewage. It can be produced and discharged by any industrial or commercial premises. Effluent usually flows from the premises directly into the main sewer network, and it cannot enter a river, reservoir, stream, or lake unless it is cleaned and treated first.

Sewage treatment plants treat the sanitary wastewater from raw waste into the secondary or tertiary stage that compliance with local water regulations.

Effluent treatment is a post-treatment procedure that aims to improve one or more parameters (i.e., N, P, COD, micropollutants, etc.) within the water.

Wastewater can include contaminants from both residential and commercial use. Untreated, the chemical compounds and pathogens in wastewater can harm the health of animals, plants, and birds that live in or near the water. It can also contaminate crops and drinking water, affecting human health. Wastewater treatment is fundamental to protect the health of many different ecosystems.
